“President Lincoln wrote and delivered a speech, The Gettysburg Address, to remind the Union why and what it was they were fighting for. He praised the service of those who sacrificed for the freedom and protection of others and our way of life. This is the same reason we are here today, to show gratitude to those who serve and protect us daily. Thank you.” – Chloe Honsa (5th grade scholar)
On Thursday, September 8th, the scholars of The Odyssey Preparatory Goodyear campus gathered to remember, to honor and to celebrate our community Patriots. We were joined by city council members Joe Pizzillo, Sharolyn Hohman, Joanne Osborn, Chief Paul Luizzi and the Goodyear Fire department, Deputy Chiefs Rodruiquez and Marzocca and the Goodyear police department, current and veteran military, EMT and Odyssey friends and families.
Each year our scholars gather to honor our community patriots. Funds are raised by our scholars to support the 100 Club of Arizona, an organization that provides immediate financial assistance to families of public safety officers and firefighters that lose their lives in the line of duty.
On this day, we remember the impact of 9/11 and channel our grief to make a positive impact. From the Odyssey team, thank you for the commitment you have made to help shape our community, for protecting us and for uniting us. “If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together”. If we go together, we are united. If we are united, we can accomplish great things for our community and for our kids.
