Happy Holidays! Go Argonauts!!

Coach Lusin and Coach Miller

Argonaut Athletes,

I know that school is just about to end; however, for student athletes the season and work never seems to be over. I wanted to give you a heads up for next years’ sports. We will be starting the week before school starts in order to catch up to our competition that will have been in school for three weeks.

First some house keeping. When you try out for our Argonaut teams we expect commitment to the team. If you make it we expect you to give 100% to the team and be at every practice and every game. This means that grades must be kept up and that other sports that might conflict are expected to be set-aside during the Argonaut season. We had many issues with student athletes missing practices and/or games because of other sports and poor grades. If you try out please keep this expectation in mind.

Our Academic eligibility policy is that all student athletes must maintain a B average and not have any D’s or F’s. If a scholar has a D or F, or does not maintain the proper average they are expected to come to all practices and games but will not be allowed to play in the game until their grades have improved. On the third consecutive grade check (every Monday) scholars with grades that do not meet the standard will be dismissed from the team.

All of next years’ athletes need to have a new sports physical completed by the start of tryouts. This includes a signed academic/sportsmanship form and a signed proof of insurance/waiver form. These forms are available in the office or online at the school website under the Resources/Downloadable Forms.

Try Outs will be open to all 6th-8th graders from both campuses. Both the Buckeye and Goodyear campuses will combine for all sports next year. Priority will be given to 7th and 8th graders, however if a 6th grader stands out they will be on the team. The goal of our sports program is to provide a fun environment that prepares scholars for the challenges of high school athletics and beyond. Our expectations are high and as stated earlier we do expect a high level of commitment.

Fall traveling sports are Volleyball and Flag Football. Tryouts for both sports will be held on the mornings of August 18th and 19th from 8am to 11am at the Buckeye campus. Dress for the sport; bring water and a good attitude. The final team roster will be posted online on Friday afternoon and an email will be sent to each scholar informing them of whether or not they made the team. Regular practices will start the first day of school. Practices start at 4:15 and end at 5:45pm. A schedule of practices and games will be provided at tryouts so you can be sure you can commit to the team. Transportation will be provided if athletes need to go to another campus for practice.

If you have any questions about Volleyball, Flag Football or next years’ sports in general please contact me at cmcnelley@topamail.com

I am excited about the upcoming year!
